LNCC na coordenação de propostas recomendadas para financiamento pelo CNPq

Nesta manhã de 12 de maio de 2016, foi divulgada pelo CNPq a relação de propostas de Institutos Nacionais de Ciência e Tecnologia (INCTs) que receberam recomendação no processo de análise de mérito técnico-científico para financiamento no âmbito da Chamada INCT - MCTI/CNPq/CAPES/FAPs nº 16/2014: http://www.cnpq.br/ 

O LNCC está envolvido diretamente na coordenação de duas propostas aprovadas e recomendadas para financiamento:

1) INCT-MACC - Medicina Assistida por Computação Científica, que neste período tem coordenação de Jose Eduardo Krieger (InCor/USP) e Vice-Coordenação de Pablo Blanco (LNCC); 

2) INCT- CiD - Ciência de Dados, com coordenação e vice-coordenação de Artur Ziviani (LNCC) e Fabio Porto (LNCC), respectivamente.

Em particular, o INCT-MACC figura como *1o. lugar* na lista nacional de INCTs recomendados a financiamento, o que reconhece e destaca os excelentes resultados obtidos por sua equipe na primeira edição de financiamento (2008-2016), sob liderança e coordenação do Prof. Raul Feijóo (LNCC), bem como vice-coordenação de Artur Ziviani (LNCC).

The Method of Multiscale Virtual Power

INCT-MACC Member, Prof. Eduardo de Souza Neto, from Swansea University, delivered a plenary talk at the XIII International Conference on Computational Plasticity (COMPLAS 2015). The talk, entitled “The Method of Multiscale Virtual Power. A Recipe for the Development of RVE-Based Multiscale Model”, addressed the variational framework of the Method of Mutiscale Virtual Power to takle multiscale modeling of physical systems. THE LIVING HEART PROJECT

What if physicians and surgeons could virtually analyze their patients’ health and plan therapies and surgeries using the same advanced simulation technology that the automotive, aerospace, energy and hi-tech industries rely on to test their product before they are built? What if medical devices could be designed and safely tested in the virtual world before ever being tested in the real world?

IF WE apply the power of realistic simulation to human modeling, we can revolutionize medical care.


The Living Heart Project is uniting leading cardiovascular researchers, educators, medical device developers, regulatory agencies, and practicing cardiologists on a shared mission to develop and validate highly accurate personalized digital human heart models. These models will establish a unified foundation for cardiovascular in silico medicine and serve as a common technology base for education and training, medical device design, testing, clinical diagnosis and regulatory science —creating an effective path for rapidly translating current and future cutting edge innovations directly into improved patient care.

The Living Heart Project is driven by a growing ecosystem that is fueling the collaborative development of validated, commercially available heart models and exploring novel digital therapies. The Living Heart Project signed a five-year collaborative research agreement with the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Together with the Project participants listed below, testing paradigms beginning with the insertion, placement and performance of peacemaker leads and other cardiovascular devices will be evaluated, bringing the Living Heart Project closer to providing personalized, interventional cardiac-patient care.

Deve ser utilizado o formato para submissão de artigos definido pela  SBC - Sociedade Brasileira de Computação. Os artigos submetidos devem ser anônimos, não contendo nomes, endereços ou outras informações que possam identificar seus autores. Todos os artigos devem estar no formato PDF e poderão ser submetidos em português, espanhol ou inglês. Serão aceitas submissões de dois tipos de trabalhos:

Trabalho Completo: Trabalhos concluídos sobre pesquisas realizadas em um dos tópicos de interesse ou em outros tópicos relacionados a aplicações computacionais nas áreas da saúde. Estes trabalhos terão um limite de até 10 páginas.

Trabalho em Andamento: Trabalhos ainda não concluídos, mas já com ideias relevantes a serem discutidas e resultados preliminares. Estes trabalhos terão um limite de até 4 páginas.

A submissão dos trabalhos será exclusivamente eletrônica através do Sistema JEMS:  https://submissoes.sbc.org.br/

O WIM 2015 irá premiar o melhor artigo em ambas as categorias: Trabalho Completo e Trabalho em Andamento.

Os melhores trabalhos completos serão convidados a submeter uma versão estendida em inglês, com resultados inéditos, ao periódico Research on Biomedical Engineering (antigo Brazilian Journal of Biomedical Engineering - Revista Brasileira de Engenharia Biomédica).

INCT-MACC-HeMoLab: Sistema ImageLab para processamento de imagens médicas

Prezados Colegas.

Como coordenador do Instituto Nacional de Ciência e Tecnologia em Medicina Assistida por Computação Científica (INCT-MACC) e como fundador do HeMoLab/LNCC (Laboratório de Modelagem Hemodinâmica do Laboratório Nacional de Computação Científica, associado ao INCT-MACC), conjuntamente com seu atual coordenador, Prof. Pablo J. Blanco, e em nome de todos os participantes no desenvolvimento, temos a grata satisfação de informar a disponibilidade do Sistema ImageLab (http://hemolab.lncc.br/imagelab/).

O Sistema ImageLab permite o processamento, segmentação e reconstrução de geometrias e a visualização de imagens médicas em um ambiente 3D, incorporando ferramentas e algoritmos avançados de processamento e segmentação desenvolvidos dentro do HeMoLab, além de outros algoritmos já existentes na comunidade científica.

 

 

Pesquisa mapeia sistema cardiovascular para aperfeiçoar precisão dos diagnósticos.

A computação vem revolucionando a medicina, que cada vez mais se utiliza de modelos computacionais para reproduzir virtualmente o ambiente do corpo humano. “Esses modelos darão lugar a uma medicina assistida por modelagem computacional, já que são capazes de fornecer direcionamentos no desenvolvimento de novos planejamentos cirúrgicos e novas estratégias terapêuticas, assim como no desenvolvimento de diagnósticos mais acurados”, explica Raúl Feijóo, coordenador do Instituto Nacional de Ciência e Tecnologia em Medicina Assistida por Computação Científica (INCT-MACC), uma rede de pesquisa voltada para o desenvolvimento de tecnologias computacionais na área.

Coordination and discusses results of INCTs announcement for this year

The coordinating committee of the Program National Institutes of Science and Technology ( INCT ) met on Tuesday ( 11 ) at the headquarters of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development ( CNPq / MCTI ) in Brasilia , to talk about the current situation program , present results and discuss the new public call inct -2014 , which should be launched in the coming months .

" We did an assessment of the results achieved to date and identify excellence and high level of importance that the action is in the National System of Science , Technology and Innovation " , said the president of CNPq , Glaucius Oliva .

He cited progress made in the thematic groups of the program in the last five years. In health study stem cells from bone marrow treatment of chronic arterial obstruction and its implementation is being done to reduce intestinal surgical complications . Another example on this theme is the development of a vaccine against canine visceral leishmaniasis. " Already approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and available for commercialization," said the president .

One of the actions carried out in the thematic group of ecology deals with the implementation of the Latin American scientific laboratory " further south on the planet" , located " 500 km into the Antarctic Icecap ," he added .

Structuring - participating in a minister in office, the executive secretary of the ministry , Luiz Antonio Elias , said that the INCTs program is one of the priority actions for the folder and the Brazilian scientific community. " For us , [ the program ] is included in the list than the Minister Marco Antonio Raupp called structuring programs MCTI " he said.

According to Elias , the program " has a strong impact on society ." "These are national institutes in areas of excellence - health, biotechnology, nanotechnology etc. . - That address the issue of the border and dissemination of knowledge to the process of becoming stronger growth within the business structure and mainly in the Brazilian university structure " .

A Universidade de Freiburg (Alemanha) está organizando em conjunto com o Programa de Pós-graduação em Informática da UFPR uma escola de verão financiada pelo DAAD (http://web.inf.ufpr.br/summerschool2014) na área de Preservação Digital, com o tema “Research Data Management – Methods and Concepts to Preserve Access to Research Data, Public Records and Private Digital Artifacts”.

A escola de verão é uma importante oportunidade para o desenvolvimento de parcerias entre universidades e cientistas, prevendo a presença de docentes alemães que ministrarão cursos e aulas durante 3 semanas, de **10 a 28 de março de 2014**.

Ela é aberta a estudantes de pós-graduação em Informática e também a profissionais e pós-graduandos de outras áreas relacionadas à preservação de acervos digitais. Participantes interessados poderão solicitar créditos equivalentes a uma disciplina na pós-graduação.

A organização local do evento é feita pelos professores do Departamento de Informática da UFPR e pesquisadores do Centro de Computação Científica e Software Livre - C3SL: Dr. Daniel Weingaertner e Dr. Luis Carlos Erpen de Bona.

A Universidade de Erlangen-Nürnberg (Alemanha) tem uma forte atuação na área de Informática Biomédica, e um longo histórico de parcerias com a indústria biomédica Alemã. Neste ano, no âmbito do ano Brasil-Alemanha, ela está organizando uma série de três eventos no Brasil sob o tema "Biomedical Signal Analysis" (http://www.biomedical-signals.com)

Gostaria de convidar interessados a enviarem artigos para o segundo evento, que será realizado de **25 a 28 de março em Florianópolis**. A group of Brazilian researchers coordinated by the National Institute of Science and Technology in Medicine Assisted by Scientific Computing ( INCT MACC ) has developed a method for the mapping of the human cardiovascular system . The research project lasted four years.

Anatomically Detailed termed as Arterial Network ( Adan ) , the model was developed for the simulation of the human cardiovascular system, which uses the three-dimensional description of corresponding to a young man with an average height of 1.70 cm arteries . To date , research has incorporated the system 2,142 arteries , among which are all those found in anatomy textbooks .

" The Adan allows the modeling and numerical simulation of the full model over the existing human arterial system throughout the international scientific community. The existing complex systems today limit the description of the cardiovascular system in 130 arteries, " compares the coordinator inct MACC Raul Feijoo .

According Feijoo , the current models are limited and therefore only used as ' proof of concept ' . " This shows that scientific computing is able to provide physiologically acceptable results," he says.

The coordinator inct MACC Adan explained that the Model was developed by the increasing numbers of cardiovascular diseases ( CVD ) . They are a major cause of death in the world population . Ischemic heart disease and cerebrovascular diseases together account for 30% of deaths in developed countries .

The Adan has as goals to understand the functioning of systems, analyze the onset and progress of diseases , diagnose pathological conditions , perform surgical planning and developing treatment strategies . Among its innovative features are the simulation of the interaction between multisystem phenomena involving multiple scales , both for individual patients as a generic way .

The Adan System - Web was launched in late 2013 and is available on the internet . It can be used for any browsercom support WebGL .

To date, research has managed to incorporate 2,142 arteries, among which are all those referenced in anatomy books.

"The ADAN model allows the modeling and numerical simulation of the full model over the existing human arterial system throughout the international scientific community. The relevance of the study aterosclerosis, pharmacokinetics, impacts on control mechanisms and tissue perfusion, detection of the growth of abdominal and cerebral aneurysms and their correlation with hemodynamic besides doefeito assessment of heart failure are part of the list of applications ADAN .

The elements used in the model are composed of mathematical and physical ingredients, such as the behavior of the arterial wall, the behavior of blood, models of peripheral arterial beds, shear stress, acceleration, topological characteristics of the arterial tree including the location of bifurcation points, redundancies (anastomoses) and completeness (high detail).

"The ADAN model allows the medicine to advance in personalized care, it provides a tool to assist in decision making with additional information not currently available and with strong physical reasons. If available, they are obtained at a high cost and often using invasive methods for the patient with their consequent risks, "says Feijoo.

The researcher at the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing - LNCC / MCTI Dr. Pablo Javier Blanco was elected at the annual general meeting , an affiliate member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences , held on Wednesday ( 18 ) in the institution . Blanco shall join the staff of the ABC in the area MEMBERS AFFILIATES 2014-2018 Regional Vice - Presidency of Rio de Janeiro . Possession will be formalized in 2014 .

Degree in Electromechanical Engineering awarded by the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata with honores (2003 ) and PhD in computational modeling at the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing (2008 ) . Received an Honorable Mention Award CAPES Doctoral Theses 2008 - Interdisciplinary Area , CAPES and Odelar Milk Linhares Award: Best Doctoral Thesis , Brazilian Society of Applied and Computational Mathematics , SBMAC . His areas of expertise are : Computational Hemodynamics of Human Cardiovascular System ; Principles and Variational Formulations in Mechanics of Fluids and Solid Mechanics , Sensitivity Analysis and Multiscale Constitutive Modeling .

INCT-MACC é considerado excelente em avaliação realizada pelo CNPQ

Instituto Nacional de Ciência e Tecnologia em Medicina Assistida por Computação Científica do Laboratório Nacional de Computação Científica (INCT-MACC), recebe avaliação excelente em todos os quesitos averiguados  pelos consultores do Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnologia (CNPq) sobre as atividades de pesquisa e desenvolvimento e FRH realizadas de Setembro de 2009 até Junho de 2013.

Com qualidade e padrão competitivo internacional o INCT-MACC contribui efetivamente para o desenvolvimento brasileiro. Os resultados das pesquisas obtidos têm sido utilizados para promover o fortalecimento da rede de pesquisa em medicina assistida por  computação e a potencialização das descobertas na área temática de atuação deste INCT. Este resultado foi atingido graças à participação, integração e comprometimento de todos os membros do INCT-MACC com a execução das atividades previstas nas 5 áreas focos:

1.    Modelagem e simulação computacional de Sistemas Fisiológicos Humanos (cardiovascular e ósseo).

2.    Processamento avançado de imagens médicas e visualização científica.

3.    Ambientes virtuais colaborativos de realidade virtual, aumentada e telemanipulação para treinamento, formação de recursos humanos e planejamento cirúrgico.

4.    Sistemas de informação em saúde com aplicações em atendimento médico emergencial e vigilância em saúde pública.

5.    Ciberambientes de computação distribuída de alto desempenho para aplicações médicas dos objetivos acima.


Ainda, o resultado desta avaliação é um indicador de que não somente as agências de apoio (CNPq, FAPERJ e CAPES), mas também a comunidade (representada pelos consultores avaliadores)  consideram que o INCT-MACC é estratégico para o desenvolvimento do País. Com o desenvolvimento de aplicativos médicos baseados nesta iniciativa e nas atividades exercidas pelo INCT-MACC, o Brasil poderá ser pioneiro na implementação de sistemas de informação de saúde interoperáveis e sem conflitos semânticos.

A Medicina Assistida por Computação Científica coloca o Brasil entre os países protagonistas no desenvolvimento desta nova área do conhecimento, de enorme impacto sócio econômico, por lidar com novas tecnologias para melhorar o bem estar da população desde o ponto de vista da sua saúde. Neste sentido é importante ressaltar que estes resultados somente foram possíveis graças ao apoio concedido pelo MCTI, CNPq, FINEP, FAPERJ e CAPES.

Description
Mathematical models have been giving remarkable contributions in advancing knowledge and supporting decisions in several branches of medicine.
 
Some progress in applying predictive mathematical tools has been made, for example: surgical planning of the Total Cavopulmonary Connection in cardiac pediatrics is, in some hospitals, based on extensive numerical simulation. However, despite the significance, the impact of predictive modeling in the routine medical treatment falls behind.

The ultimate goal of this workshop is to foster collaboration between mathematicians and medical doctors on modeling cardiovascular system. The workshop is organized into two lines that reflect the special format of the workshop: (a) "Core topics" are up-to-date research areas in mathematics and scientific computing that still present several open exciting challenges, which can require developing new numerical models, computational approaches and validation techniques; (b) "New challenges" are a set of cardiovascular (in broad sense) problems and diseases that have not been attacked extensively with numerical tools.

The "core topics" will include fluid-structure interaction, multi-scale dynamics, data assimilation, while the "new challenges" will focus on the liver circulation, cardiac re-synchronization therapy, chronic venous insufficiency and coiling of intracranial aneurysms. The workshop will be based on round-table discussions in smaller groups and lectures.

It is our great pleasure to announce that the 15th IEEE International Conference on e-Health Networking, Application & Services (IEEE Healthcom 2013) will be held in Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal, from October 09 to October 12, 2013.

IEEE Healthcom 2013 is fully sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society. It aims at bringing together interested parties from around the world working in the health care field to exchange ideas, to discuss innovative and emerging solutions, and to develop collaborations. eHealth is defined as the cost-effective and secure use of information and communications technologies in support of health and the related fields, including health-care related services, surveillance, literature, education, knowledge, and research, both at the local site and at a distance. It will make personalized medicine possible and affordable in the near future. The adoption of eHealth technologies in medical fields creates huge opportunities yet lots of challenges still need to be resolved to build reliable, secure, and efficient networks or platforms with great flexibility.

Prospective authors are cordially invited to submit their original contributions covering completed or ongoing work related to the eHealth area.

The XIII Workshop of Medical Informatics (WIM 2013) aims to bring together, under the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC), researchers, students, professors, entrepreneurs and professionals interested in applied computing in the area of ​​Health WIM 2013 will be held as part of the events of the XXXIII Congress of the Brazilian Computer Society (CSBC), in Maceió, AL, from 23 to 26 July 2013. WIM is the annual event of the Special Committee on Applied Computing in Health SBC.

Activities include presentation of the WIM complete articles and summarized articles reporting work in progress, as well as invited lectures and round tables, spread over two days of the CSBC.

We invite authors to submit papers on original research and innovative applications in the areas of Computer Science or Information Systems applied to Health A non-exhaustive list of topics of interest includes:

Please use the format defined by SBC - Brazilian Computer Society. Submitted papers must be anonymous, containing no names, addresses or other information that might identify the authors. All items must be in PDF format and may be submitted in Portuguese, Spanish or English. Submissions will be accepted from two types of jobs:

Full Paper: Completed Jobs on research in a topic of interest or other topics related to computer applications in health. The work will take up to a limit of 10 pages.

Work in Progress: Work not yet completed, but already with relevant ideas to be discussed and preliminary results. This work will be a limit of up to 4 pages.

The WIM 2013 will reward the best paper in both categories: Work Completed and Work in Progress

Prezados,

Encontra-se aberta a inscrição para 01 (uma) bolsa de Recém-Doutor do PRODOC do Laboratório Nacional de Computação Científica (LNCC). O projeto será desenvolvido no LNCC, em Petrópolis-RJ, a partir de 1º de agosto de 2011.

O candidato selecionado receberá uma bolsa de pós-doutoramento no valor mensal de  R$ 3.300,00 (três mil e trezentos reais), paga ao bolsista diretamente pela CAPES, e um auxílio financeiro, no valor máximo anual de  R$ 12.000,00 (doze mil reais), para o custeio de atividades de ensino, pesquisa e extensão referentes ao projeto. O período da bolsa se encerra em 30 de novembro de 2012, com possibilidade de encaminhamento de um novo projeto à CAPES, para período posterior.

Ends the 1st Workshop on Scientific Computing in Medicine Assisted Area

The National Laboratory for Scientific Computation (LNCC / MCT) in Petrópolis (RJ), promotes today (30) On the 1st Workshop Scientific Computing in Health Applications. The event is an initiative of the National Institute of Science and Technology-Assisted Medical Scientific Computing (INCT-MACC), coordinated by the LNCC. 

The audience of 57 national and international institutions consists of 160 professionals in the areas of computer science and medicine participate in activities aimed at establishing more interactivity between the two camps estudo.

Created in 2009, INCT MACC is a virtual institute that brings together 23 laboratories in 11 Brazilian states and in over 10 countries.

Computer use contributes to the advancement of medicine in the country

The increasing popularity of internet use, upgrading databases online,simulating real environments and the development of modern techniques of imaging in three dimensions (3D) by means of computers will, over the coming years, bring huge advances in medicine in the country assessment is the coordinator of the National Institute of Science & Technology in Medicine Assisted by Scientific Computing (INCT-MACC), Raul Antonino Feijóo.
